gilt bronze with foundry mark of F. Barbedienne of Paris, inscribed signature, mounted to a marble and bronze plinth. HOA 11 in. Bareau studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He first exhibited his work at the Salon in 1899 and was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle a year later. His large scale and decorative sculptures are graceful interpretations of the Art Nouveau style predominate at the turn of the century; admired for their "serenity and purity of line."
