Partially slight abrasion. The size measures 48 x 87 x 18 cm. Francesco Messina (1900-1995) Francesco Messina’s creativity was mainly shaped by his membership in the Italian artist group Novecento. He became the director of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (1936-1944) and the emeritus of the Accademia d’Italia (1943). He was awarded the Prize for Sculpture of the Venice Biennale (1942). Great figurative works are among others the monuments for Pius II in St. Peter’s Basilica and for Pius XI at Milan Cathedral, as well as the Sala Borgia of the Vatican Gallery of Paulus VI.
