작품 상세

Signed 'W.Lehmbruck/Df.' to the reverse of the cast-with plinth and with foundry stamp "DÜSSELDF. BRONCEBILDGIESSEREI/G.M.B.H." to the left. One of a total of 7-8 known casts of the smaller version of the sculpture "Badendes Mädchen" (also "Badende") of 1902. Lifetime cast. After the success of his large sculpture of a young swimmer "Badende" (Bathing Woman; height 65 cm, cf. Dietrich Schubert, Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Catalogue raisonné der Skulpturen 1898-1919, Worms 2001, No. 12, illus. p. 57) Lehmbruck made a smaller version, which was cast by the "Düsseldorfer Broncebildgiesserei" around 1905/1906, according to Dietrich Schubert, and which bears their foundry stamp in the majority of cases. Relatively few examples of this smaller version are known to exist. One cast of the large "Badendes Mädchen" (Bathing Girl) was purchased by the Düsseldorf academy in 1905. In the following years (from 1906 - 1908) this characteristic and popular early work was exhibited several times: In Cologne (Flora, Deutsche Kunstausstellung), in Paris (Société Nationale, "Jeune fille se baignant"), in Berlin and Mannheim. The motif was also reproduced on numerous contemporary postcards (cf. exhib. cat. Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Gerhard Marcks-Stiftung Bremen 2000, p. 30). Height 41.5 cm
