Er wird von der Kunstgeschichte als singulärer Stilbildner zwischen figurativer und abstrakter Plastik hervorgehoben. Kennzeichnet den Beginn seines frühen Oeuvres noch eine im weitesten Sinne klassizistische Grundhaltung, gewinnen im Laufe der 1950er Jahre kubistisch abstrahierende Formen an Bedeutung. Loth setzt sich neu mit dem Thema Figur auseinander und leistet zeitgleich mit Horst Antes einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Neuen Figuration, die in Karlsruhe eine besondere Entwicklung genommen hat. Die Autonomie des Plastisch-Räumlichen bindet sich an die Leiblichkeit des weiblichen Körpers. Radikal drängt Loth auf das Fragmentieren hin und bändigt zunehmend die dynamische Körperlandschaft seiner Torsi mit geometrischen Umrissen. He is recognised by art history as a unique stylist between figurative and abstract sculpture. While the beginning of his early oeuvre was still characterised by a classicist attitude in the broadest sense, cubist, abstract forms gained in importance in the course of the 1950s. Loth revisited the theme of the figure and, together with Horst Antes, made a decisive contribution to New Figuration, which underwent a particular development in Karlsruhe. The autonomy of the sculptural-spatial is linked to the corporeality of the female body. Loth radically pushed towards fragmentation and increasingly tamed the dynamic body landscape of his torsos with geometric outlines.
