Washed ink drawing on wove paper 'Zerkall' (watermark) Germany, 1961-74 Wilhelm Loth (1920-1993) German sculptor, painter and graphic artist Three of the sheets signed 'Loth' in pencil and all dated '27.11.61', '8.6.61', '73' and '4 XII 74' in ink and three of the sheets dedicated in pencil Sheet dimensions: each c. 53.5 x 76.2 cm Condition: All sheets show overall handling creases, scattered marks and tiny damages to the edges, verso each with traces of a previous mounting at the upper edges. Further two of the sheets bear parallel sheet-size creases and the other two sheets show longer creases in the lower part, one sheet with a few small tears at the lower edge (max. 2 cm) and there are pressure marks of the label on the reverse affecting one sheet lower left. The sheet dimensions are c. 53.5 x 76.2 cm. Wilhelm Loth (1920-1993) Wilhelm Loth was a German sculptor, painter and graphic artist of the 20th century from Darmstadt. Loth started his career as an artist taking private drawing lessons apart from his training as surveying technician. At the end of the 1930s he decided to became a sculptor supported by the famous artist Käthe Kollwitz: Loth studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt under Toni Stadler and became a pupil of the school of applied arts in Darmstadt after that. Later the artist was professor himself (sculpture) at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. Loth participated in the documenta III in Kassel and he was awarded several times during his career. The artist focused on the female body in his work as a sculptor, which was influenced over the decades by different art tendencies such as archaic plastics, experimental and informal influences as well as by a voluminous and sensual conception of the body.
