Carlos David Almaraz (1941-1989) "The Great News Reel 1945" Mixed Media Collage on Board. The work is signed on verso in pencil "The Great News Reel 1945" C. D. Almaraz 1967. Measures 9" X 11", matted in a mahogany frame 16" X 18". Carlos was a Mexican-American artist and an early advocate of the Chicano street arts movement. Almaraz is known to have been an early supporter of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers. He was born in Mexico City and lived in Chicago, the Los Angeles area, and New York City. After high school he attended Los Angeles City College and studied under David Ramirez. Carlos also studied art at : Loyola Marymount University, California State University Los Angeles, Otis College of Art and Design, Otis Art Institute, and UCLA. In 1973 Carlos was one of four artist who formed the artist collective known as "Los Four". Carlos Almaraz works are exhibited in art museums and major art collections. Carlos truly loved his work and it is said that he was painting the night before he passed away. Condition - Good Condition.
