Carlos David Almaraz (1941-1989) Mixed Media Collage with Lace on Board. Pencil signed upper right C.D. Almaraz. Visible image measures 20 1/2" X 31". Mounted in the original frame pencil marked ALMARAZ on verso and labeled, Gold Leaf Frame Shop, 466 Sixth Avenue, New York, N.Y., Watkins 9-3031. Carlos was a Mexican-American artist and an early advocate of the Chicano street arts movement. Almaraz is known to have been an early supporter of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers. He was born in Mexico City and lived in Chicago, the Los Angeles area, and New York City. After high school he attended Los Angeles City College and studied under David Ramirez. Carlos also studied art at : Loyola Marymount University, California State University Los Angeles, Otis College of Art and Design, Otis Art Institute, and UCLA. In 1973 Carlos was one of four artist who formed the artist collective known as "Los Four". Carlos Almaraz works are exhibited in art museums and major art collections. Carlos truly loved his work and it is said that he was painting the night before he passed away. Condition - Good condition. Frame needs minor repair.
