작품 상세

Oil on canvas Otto Berenbrock (1907-1985) - German artist and illustrator of Bauhaus Signed and dated on lower right 'O. Berenbrock 67' Abstract composition Dimensions: 180 x 180 cm Provenance: from the estate of the artist An impressive painting of the Bauhaus-co-founder and pupil of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, whose art works are a true rarity on the international art market The abstract composition by Otto Berenbrock dates to 1967. It shows an abstract composition with partly layered geometric forms. The main focus lies with the square in the centre that is of a deep blue colour. The work is rendered in a reduced colour palette of greens and blues. There are some hints of red and yellow. Below the layer of paint some preliminary drawing is partially visible. With this work, Otto Berenbrock reached a style of abstractness that emerged during the Dessau Bauhaus of the 1920s. In terms of its form and colour composition, the work speaks of the time of its creation (1967) and convinces even more so due to its large scale format. The painting is signed and dated on the lower right with 'O. Berenbrock 67'. The work is in an appealing condition with usual traces of age and wear. Some parts have been repainted and a restoration patch is visible on the back of the canvas. The dimensions of the stretcher are 180 x 180 cm.
