Charles Schulz (1922-2000) created one of the most popular comics in history, Peanuts, which received the 1962 National Cartoonist Society Humor Comix Strip Award. On the Hollywood Walk of Fame, his star is placed next to Walt Disney's. The cartoon strip, Peanuts, was widely syndicated in daily and Sunday papers, running new pieces from 1950 to 2000. Readership rose to 355 million, in 75 countries at its peak. Since Schulz's death, the comic remains popular and is rerun regularly. This 6" x 4" original pencil drawing of Lucy shows the character smiling, her arms resting at her side. The unsigned off-white page is in fine condition, with a small numerical notation marked on the top left corner in red ink. Some light creases to the lower left. The drawing was produced for an advertising agency in San Francisco who handled an account for Butternut Bread around 1970.
