Nice, colored illustration of the Pool of Bethesda sheep in the Moslem Quarter of the Old City. By David Roberts. Artist's signature in the plate on the bottom of the lithograph, dated, 'Jerusalem, 12.4.1839'. This pool was used during the Second Temple era as a water source and for healing purposes. Published by T.G. Moon, London, c. 1842.Featrued in his book: The Holy Land, vol 1, plate 12.English. 32.5 x49 cm. (43.5x59.5 cm. inclusive). Excellent condition. Thick, quality paper. Tiny marginal tears, without loss.David Roberts (1796-1864) was a Scottish artist. He toured Palestine in 1838-1840 and sketched pictures of the country. His illustrations, watercolors and oil paints, are famous. Upon his return to Britain he prepared these lithographs by Louis Haghe (1806-1885) between 1842-1849.
