Maamor Jantan was born in 1961, in Kulim, Kedah. He was a well-known musician and artist of the Modern & Contemporary movement. Maamor Jantan started out as an apprentice machinist before getting a job as an assistant curator, for an art gallery in Kuala Lumpur where he was first introduced to the world of visual arts and its artists. It was only after meeting the inimitable Khalil Ibrahim in 1984 and studying under him for more than a decade that he ventured into art.
