In this work entitled Emperor Of Tasik Chini, also in 'emperor' size of 244cm x 366cm (triptych), Raduan Man explores the legend of Tasik Chini with its fabled Seri Gumum Dragon, a sacred creature in the lake created by a heavy thunderstorm on land occupied by the Jakun tribe. It's an old legend that dates back to the sunken Khmer empire city of King Jayavarman II. Like an environmental guardian, the dragon is shown on all four corners of the canvas with another in the centre, all flushed in red with nondescript shadows. The work is an oil on canvas, with incorporation of printmaking techniques. Tasik Chini is designated a Unesco Biosphere Reserve for its rich biodiversity over a 5,026ha area. Raduan Man has double Masters (University of Wolverhampton in Painting, 2003; and Camberwell School of Art in Printmaking, 2006), after graduating with a BFA from Universiti ITM in Printmaking (2001). His awards include the Tanjung Heritage Prize (2002). He had more than 10 solos since his first, Fresh Markings, at NN Gallery in 2003.
