Fernando Zobel Invierno en Sevilla V From 1975–78, Zobel worked on the White Series. Of this period of his work, he said, “The White Paintings are lyrical by nature…I prefer to convince quietly if I can. Metabolism I suppose. A flute makes less sound than an organ but I can hear it better.” In Invierno en Sevilla, or translated, Winter in Seville, the fluid interaction between greys, whites and blacks convey a cerebral quality in its abstraction of the most familiar aspects of painting—form, perspective and space. 1977 80 x 99 cm (31.5 x 39 in) Oil on canvas
