This stunning, large-scaled and most quintessential of works from the artist's celebrated Serie Negra (Black Series), which grew out of his more linear Saetas, is an elegant expression of silent tranquility and powerful energy in perfect equilibrium, the nuanced gray to white atmospheric wash on the upper portion of the canvas meeting the rising movement of the wispy strokes of the drybrush on the foreground, hearkening to birds in flight (the title translates as 'The Last Rooks'). This painting is arguably the largest work by the abstractionist master to be publicly offered at auction in the Philippines.
