Sakti BURMAN (Calcutta, 1935) Swing Oil on canvas 64 x 52 cm Signed lower center Sakti Burman Provenance : Private collection. Acquired on February 23, 1988 from Jean and Régine Minet, Galerie d'art de la Place Beauvau, Paris, during the artist's solo exhibition organized from February 23 to March 20, 1988. In this poetic, dreamlike composition, two figures seated on a swing answer each other under a canopy, in the heart of a lush garden. A subtle symmetry structures the whole: trees, figures and birds establish a network of visual echoes that lend the scene a singular harmony. The iridescent colors, delicately modeled faces and frontal composition reflect the dual influence of Indian miniatures and the masters of the Italian Renaissance. This work is part of Burman's 1980s research into the unity between man and nature, in a register where mythical narrative and visual reverie come together.
