A south Indian cast bronze figure of a goddess Parvati India,Tamil Nadu,late Nayaka or Maratha period,18-19th century. Height: 33 cm (13 in.) Cast in bronze with a dark, rich patina. The Goddess is modeled standing in a graceful tribhanga (triple-bent) posture on a circular lotus pedestal (padmapitha), which rests upon a tiered rectangular plinth.She is framed by a detachable, flame-rimmed aureole (prabhavali) culminating in a floral finial. The figure is adorned in a striated dhoti secured at the waist with an elaborate girdle (mekhala) featuring festoons and tassels. Her jewelry includes multiple necklaces, bracelets, armbands, and anklets. Her face bears a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes and an aquiline nose, flanked by elongated earlobes weighing down under heavy ornaments.Her hair is arranged in a high, tiered conical bun (karanda mukuta). Her right hand is raised in kataka hasta, likely originally holding a flower or attribute (now missing or stylized), while her left hand extends downwards in lola hasta, mirroring the curve of her hip.
