From an old German diplomatic collection, assembled prior to 1995; according to provided information, acquired in Calcutta in 1977 - Minor wear, framed - Shyamal Dutta Roy was born in Ranchi, Bihar in 1934. He graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft in 1955. Dutta Roy worked as art teacher at Jagadbhandu Institution in Calcutta. He was a founder member of the Society of Contemporary Artists. Ray’s childhood was shaped by serious illness and the traumatic impact of the 1943 Bengal famine-experiences that left a lasting impression on both his life and his art. Though he began painting in oils, a medical allergy forced him to adopt watercolour, which he elevated through the bold use of saturated hues, breaking with the diluted tones common among his contemporaries. Angaben, 1977 in Kalkutta erworben - Minim. berieben, gerahmt - Shyamal Dutta Roy wurde 1934 in Ranchi, Bihar, geboren. Er schloss sein Studium am Government College of Art and Craft im Jahr 1955 ab. Dutta Roy arbeitete als Kunstlehrer an der Jagadbhandu Institution in Kalkutta. Er war Gründungsmitglied der Society of Contemporary Artists. Roys Kindheit war geprägt von schwerer Krankheit und den traumatischen Erfahrungen der Bengalischen Hungersnot von 1943 - Erlebnisse, die einen bleibenden Eindruck auf sein Leben und seine Kunst hinterließen. Obwohl er zunächst mit Ölfarben malte, zwang ihn eine medizinische Allergie dazu, auf Aquarell umzusteigen. Dieses Medium erhob er zu neuer Ausdruckskraft, indem er kräftig gesättigte Farbtöne verwendete - ein Bruch mit den vorherrschenden, verdünnten Farbpaletten seiner Zeitgenossen.
