작품 상세

Set of four modernist posters, ca. 1900. In wrought iron. Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. Three of them with engraved legends: "Librería", "Pedagógica", "J.Darné". Measurements: 86 x 64 x 13 cm (the largest). This set of modernist posters is an example of decorative design applied to the commercial field in the context of Catalan modernism. Each poster is carefully handcrafted, using a rectangular metal plate with sinuous and cut edges, with a forged outline with stylized plant motifs and scrolls that evoke leaves or tendrils. Three of the posters have inscriptions in relief, with letters modeled in a typographic style characteristic of the period, with curved, decorative forms and in harmony with the vegetal support of the design: "J. Darné" (probably the name of the owner of the establishment), "Pedagógica" (indicating a store of educational materials) and "Librería" (Bookstore). The fourth sign presents the same ornamental richness and may have been intended for a future signage. The use of wrought iron, worked with traditional techniques by blacksmith-artists, is evidence of the modernist appreciation for craftsmanship and trades.
