ROLLERBALL (1975) - Hand-Painted Comprehensive Poster Artwork by Bob Peak - Hand-painted near-final, comprehensive poster artwork by Bob Peak from the promotion of Norman Jewison's sci-fi sports film Rollerball. Jonathan E. (James Caan) was the star athlete of a future sport called Rollerball, a fast-paced and violent competition centered around control of the single steel ball for which the game, and film, are named. Bob Peak was a commercial illustrator who produced iconic poster artwork for films such as West Side Story, Apocalypse Now, the Star Trek franchise, Superman, Excalibur, and many more. His work also featured on the covers of Time magazine, TV Guide, and Sports Illustrated, and in 1961, Peak was named Artist of the Year by the Artists Guild of New York. Peak's artwork has a strong following and track record of performing exceptionally well at auction, with several sales in excess of $100,000 in recent years. This poster artwork is for the US One-Sheet and varies slightly from the final released version, with the final poster featuring more detail, adding more of Jonathan E.'s face, and additional glare on the metallic aspects of his armor. The artwork is rendered in gouache, pastel and mixed media on paper. It is signed by Peak in black to the right hand corner of the poster, and is mounted, framed and glazed.
