Large, unframed oil on canvas done by important Indian artist B. Prabha (India, 1933-2001). B. Prabha was one of the most important woman artist from Modern India, her work found perennial themein the lives of rural women. It is interesting to note that B. Prabha was a practicing female artist in an age where women were un-apologetically oppressed, and it is no surprise therefore that Prabha used her own position as an artist to makestrong comments on the same. She studied at the Nagpur School of Arts and went on to study painting and mural paintings at the famous J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai. Prabha developed her trade mark style and her painting s cover a widerange of subjects. One of her famous series of paintings is the Fisher woman series. Her paintings have been sold by prominent auction houses around the world. Fully signed and dated, 1987. Provenance: Purchased directly from the artists family trust in 2004 by a Texas collector. Now property of a Massachusetts collector.
