Aubusson - woven Gobelin tapestry, depiction of the Berlin city castle with castle bridge, after a design by Prof. Ernst Flemming and made by Städtische Höhere Webschule zu Berlin, 1880-85. There are two copies of this tapestry, one hangs in the Gewerbemuseum. Ernst Richard Flemming (1866-1931), director of Higher School of Textile and Clothing Berlin, textile and clothing scientist, designer, author, university teacher. As a Berlin institution, the "Städtische Webeschule" was a municipal institution with shares held by the Prussian state. Its origins go back to the "Berliner Gewerbeinstitut" founded in 1822.
