Large T'ang camel with saddle. China, Tang Dynasty, 618�907 AD. Height 93,5 cm, width approx. 77 cm. Finely fired, light ochre-coloured terracotta with traces of polychromy. Hollow, modelled in several segments. Surface with engobe primer made of chalk and kaolin, over which traces of polychromy in ochre, reddish brown, black and white have been preserved. Powerful naturalistic modelling of a camel in slight striding motion with open mouth and removable saddlecloth. This type, unglazed but coloured, corresponds to the workshop tradition of Gongyi or Luoyang (Henan Province). Kraftvoll naturalistisch modelliertes Kamel in leicht schreitender Bewegung mit aufgerissenem Maul und abnehmbarer Satteldecke. Der hier vorliegende Typus, unglasiert, jedoch farbig gefasst, entspricht der Werkstatttradition von Gongyi oder Luoyang (Provinz Henan).
