Larger than life upper head of a Dvarapala guardian. Southeast Asia, Khmer, Bakheng era, 10th century. Height approx. 48 cm, height 58 cm (with base). Fine to medium-grained sandstone. Modern base. Finely crafted head of a Dvarapala with a calm, introspective expression and the characteristic �Angkorian smile.� The closed eyes with slightly lowered eyelids, the harmoniously proportioned mouth, and the sculpturally modeled lips lend the face a contemplative dignity typical of the early Bakheng style under King Yasovarman I (approx. 889-910 AD). The conical hair knot is regularly structured with small grid sections and is framed by a flatly profiled headband. Fein- bis mittelkörniger Sandstein. Moderne Sockelung. Fein ausgearbeiteter Kopf eines Dvarapala mit ruhig in sich gekehrtem Ausdruck und dem charakteristischem "angkorischem Lächeln". Die geschlossenen Augen mit leicht gesenkten Lidern, der harmonisch proportionierte Mund und die plastisch modellierten Lippen verleihen dem Antlitz eine kontemplative Würde, wie sie für den frühen Bakheng-Stil unter König Yasovarman I. (ca. 889-910 n.Chr.) typisch ist. Der konische Haarknoten ist regelmäßig mit kleinen Rasterpartien strukturiert und wird von einem flach profilierten Stirnband eingefasst.
