Stone head of a Luohan. China, Ming dynasty, 1368�1644. Height approx. 28 cm, height approx. 38 cm (with stand). Fine-grained sandstone, modern base. Fully sculpted, powerfully modelled head of a Luohan � an enlightened disciple of Buddha. Slightly inclined. Striking facial features, yet filled with meditative calm. Broad cheeks, strongly arched eyebrows above almond-shaped eyes, straight nose and slightly open mouth. Elongated ears.With an expert opinion by Jean-Yves Nathan, Paris, 2014.Minor scuffs on the nose and forehead, age-related wear. Otherwise in very good condition. Steinerner Kopf eines Luohan. Vollplastischer, kraftvoll modellierter Kopf eines Luohan - eines erleuchteten Schülers des Buddha. Leicht geneigt. Markante, zugleich von meditativer Ruhe erfüllte Gesichtszüge.
