Small Khmer head of a male deity, probably Vishnu. Southeast Asia, Angkor Wat, around 1100 AD. Height 28 cm, height 42 cm (with base). Sandstone with a fine gray-yellow patina. Exquisite head of a deity, probably Vishnu, with the characteristic calm and majestic expression of the Angkor Vat period. The artistically crafted mukuta (crown) with finely roughened, geometric decoration and surrounding headband is typical of the classical phase under King Suryavarman II (reigned 1113-1150 AD), builder of Angkor Wat, in terms of precision and perfection of form. Modern base. Even patina of age and fine weathering marks; minor loss of substance on the nose, base of the ears, and crown. Otherwise in very good condition. Erlesener Kopf einer Gottheit, wohl Vishnu, mit dem charakteristischen, ruhigen und zugleich majestätischen Ausdruck der Angkor-Vat-Periode. Der kunstvoll gearbeitete mukuta (Krone) mit fein gerautetem, geometrischem Dekor und umlaufendem Stirnband ist in Präzision und Formvollendung typisch für die klassische Phase unter König Suryavarman II. (reg. 1113-1150 n. Chr.), Erbauer des Angkor Vat. Modern gesockelt.
