Islamic silk Kaaba Kiswah with heavy silver metal embroidery. The curtain is adorned with calligraphy and undulating floral vines. The calligraphy writes the Islamic declaration of faith (Shahada) and multiple Qur??anic invocations, including "Bismillah" and a supplication for goodness in this life and the next. The design is framed with names of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and divine epithets such as "O Most Compassionate, O Most Generous Giver." The silver embroidery shows signs of tarnishing due to age. 19th century. Dimensions: 100 x 63 inches. The piece is heavy - over 50 lbs.
