Finely cast and engraved ritual kartika composed of a long cylindrical silver shaft densely engraved throughout with scrolling foliate and cloud motifs. Тhe central node formed as a bulbous double-lotus knop incorporating a yin-yang symbol, flanked at one end by a crescent-shaped flaying knife blade elaborately decorated in high relief with polychrome-painted scrolling vegetal and flame designs over a gilt ground. Аt the opposite end is a vajra-form terminal with applied foliate arms and inset coral-colored stones, surmounted by a flared cylindrical cup or ferrule engraved with sinuous dragon and geometric band motifs. The entire object displays the complex symbolic vocabulary of Vajrayana Buddhist ritual implements, the crescent blade representing the severing of ignorance and attachment, and the vajra embodying indestructible wisdom and compassion. Constructed primarily of silver, with extensive fire-gilding, engraved ornament, and applied stone decoration, intended for ceremonial and iconographic use rather than any martial function.
