Trained at the Xiamen Academy of Art and Design (1991) and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (1994), Chen has developed a distinctive sculptural language characterized by monumental scale, polished surfaces, and allegorical figuration. His celebrated series Red Memory deploys exaggerated, childlike forms in vivid red to evoke both nostalgia and irony, contrasting innocence with the pressures of modern consumer society. Other works adopt satirical and surreal strategies to interrogate themes of desire, materialism, and social aspiration within China’s rapidly shifting urban landscape. By combining humour, grotesque exaggeration, and symbolic colour, Chen’s sculptures operate as both playful and critical reflections on collective memory and contemporary culture. He currently lives and works between Beijing and Xiamen, with his works exhibited internationally and included in major institutional and private collections.
