작품 상세

Dimensions: Height: 29,1 cm Wide 19 cm Depth 12 cm Weight: 2029 grams Cast in bronze with traces of gilding and polychrome, the bodhisattva Guanyin is depicted seated in vajrāsana on a lotus base, her hands folded in dhyānamudrā of meditation. She is adorned with a long flowing robe incised with floral borders and pendant jewels across the chest, while a tall openwork crown rises above her head, its intricate scrollwork still retaining traces of pigment. The serene face is modeled with downcast eyes and a gentle smile, evoking calm and benevolence. Traces of gilding on the face and garments emphasize the deity’s spiritual radiance, while remnants of turquoise and red pigment highlight the crown and jewelry. The reverse is carefully finished, with cascading drapery and a knotted sash. This sculpture exemplifies the Ming dynasty’s devotional bronze tradition, characterized by robust casting, detailed ornamentation, and a harmonious balance of solemnity and grace. Comparable Ming Guanyin bronzes can be found in major collections, including the Palace Museum, Beijing, and the British Museum, London, which display similar features such as the tall crown, ornate jewelry, and traces of gilding combined with polychrome embellishments. These works reflect the wide popularity of Guanyin during the Ming period, when she was worshipped as the most approachable and compassionate of the bodhisattvas.
