Dimensions: Height 14 cm Wide 8 cm Depth 8 cm Weight: 408 grams Finely enamelled on opaque white glass in the refined famille rose palette, this elegant brush cup is decorated with a continuous narrative scene of an elderly scholar accompanied by a youthful attendant. The figures are rendered with remarkable delicacy, the scholar shown leaning on a staff, his long beard and flowing robes painted with confident, fluid brushwork. Subtle architectural and bamboo elements frame the composition, lending depth and scholarly atmosphere to the scene. The soft, harmonious colour palette, combined with precise black outlines and carefully shaded enamels, exemplifies the high technical standard achieved in Qing dynasty enamel-on-glass wares. The recessed base bears a red four-character Qianlong reign mark in seal script, underscoring the imperial aesthetic and courtly taste of the period. Brush cups of this quality, with well-preserved enamels and an engaging figural composition, are increasingly sought after by collectors. This example stands out for its balanced proportions, refined painting, and strong visual presence, making it an excellent addition to a serious collection of Qing decorative arts.
