작품 상세

Dimensions: Height 9 cm Wide 12 cm Depth 46 cm Weight: 389 grams Of classic ruyi form with a long, gently curving shaft terminating in three cartouches of differing shape – lobed, rectangular, and square. Each cartouche finely carved in high relief with narrative scenes: the head depicting a gathering of sages beneath pine and clouds, the central cartouche with attendants and auspicious motifs, and the terminal with a lady by a pavilion amidst swirling clouds. The shaft is richly decorated with auspicious emblems including the endless knot, scrolls, and floral medallions, all executed with crisp detail and retaining a warm patina from handling. The ruyi scepter, literally meaning “as you wish,” was a traditional symbol of power and good fortune, often presented as a gift to emperors, high officials, or esteemed scholars. Expert note: Compare a closely related boxwood ruyi, Qing dynasty, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Palace Museum Collection of Elite Carvings, Beijing 2002, no. 124. The iconography and workmanship of the present piece align with imperial workshop production of the 18th century.
