작품 상세

Dimensions: Height 5,5 cm Diameter 43 cm Weight 2009 grams A fine and impressive large Imari charger, China, dating to the early 18th century, circa 1720–1730. The broad cavetto is richly decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and iron-red enamels with gilt highlights, depicting a dynamic floral composition of peonies, chrysanthemum blossoms, and flowering prunus branches, arranged with striking asymmetry against a luminous white ground. The rim is bordered with a dense iron-red scrolling ground reserved with floral cartouches, creating a strong visual frame that enhances the depth and vitality of the central design. The palette, brushwork, and confident use of space are characteristic of high-quality Imari wares produced for the export market during the Kangxi–Yongzheng transitional period. The reverse is decorated with scattered floral sprigs, and the base shows the expected kiln supports and firing marks consistent with early 18th-century manufacture. Plates of this large size were luxury objects, intended for display as much as for use, and surviving examples of comparable scale and decorative richness are increasingly scarce. A powerful and decorative piece, combining bold colour, refined composition, and historical importance—ideal for a distinguished collection of Chinese export porcelain or early Imari wares.
