작품 상세

Antique Chinese Carved Low Kang Table. Crafted from a dark hardwood, the rectangular top features a floating panel design set within a simple, mitered frame. The table's most distinctive feature is its curved legs, which descend in a continuous scroll form that terminates in a tight inward spiral, known as Ruyi or Cloud-and-Scroll feet, lending the piece an elegant, classical Asian aesthetic. Size: 13 x 17 x 38 1/2 in.    Chinese Kang tables are low, rectangular tables traditionally used atop the kang—a raised, heated brick platform common in northern Chinese homes that served as both bed and communal seating area. Typically made from hardwoods such as elm, walnut, or rosewood, these tables are compact and sturdy, designed to hold tea services, writing materials, or small meals while people sat or reclined around them. Their proportions emphasize balance and simplicity, often featuring graceful recessed legs, rounded edges, and subtle carvings that reflect regional craftsmanship and Confucian ideals of harmony in daily life. Today, antique Kang tables are appreciated for their elegant minimalism and adaptability, often repurposed as coffee tables or decorative pieces in modern interiors.
