Lot 6 Antique Chinese Rose Medallion Westerner Narrative Hot Water Plates 9.75in x 2in Porcelain Enamel Gilt. Note: each of the 6 interior panels are different including a most interesting sequence of an interior or court figure with red hair before a female noble who in a subsequent plate scene is shown standing in a much more richly colored water side landscape beheaded with his head being carried off by a bird. The contrasting red hair versus all other figures on all other plates with dark hair was often used to denote someone of Western affiliation. Also note that the borders of the two plates with the red haired subject have a more vivid, more abstract border than the other 4 plates which feature a more prominent presentation of birds and butterflies. Additionally the placement of the interior gilt ring that surrounds the interiors varies with each plate from up at the top of the concave interior lip down to the bottom of that center of the center of the flat area on the edge of the interior.
