Dimensions: 15-7/8" H x 12-3/8" W Exceptional and Large Tibetan Gilt-Bronze Triad with Elaborate Mandorla Tibet, 18th–19th Century Gilt Bronze with Openwork Backscreen A magnificent and finely cast Tibetan gilt-bronze triad centered by a standing Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin) flanked by two attendant bodhisattvas, all raised on a multi-tiered lotus pedestal and framed by an elaborately pierced openwork mandorla. The central figure stands in graceful tribhanga posture, wearing a long flowing dhoti, jeweled necklaces, and a five-leaf crown, the right hand in abhaya mudra offering protection, the left holding the stem of a lotus. His attendants mirror classical bodhisattva iconography, each richly adorned and posed with reverent gestures. The towering aureole is masterfully rendered in deep openwork, filled with scrolling vines and seated miniature Buddhas arranged symmetrically around the triad, symbolizing the infinite emanation of enlightened forms. The dense foliate carving, beaded edging, and well-balanced composition of the backscreen demonstrate exceptional workshop skill and devotional refinement. The stepped pedestal, decorated with repeated lotus petal borders and intricate geometric friezes, elevates the ensemble, underscoring its original use as a temple shrine figure or personal altar icon of significant importance. The heavy casting, thick gilding, and crisp details, particularly in the faces and jewelry, testify to a high-quality production associated with established Tibetan monastic ateliers. A rare and impressive devotional sculpture, combining stately presence, technical accomplishment, and richly symbolic iconography.
