Magnificent silver tobacco box, apparently not stamped. Russian nalu work. Beautiful decorations of birds and flowers. "Yonah M. Navon" is inscribed on the lid. Rabbi Yonah Moshe Navon served as a rabbi in Jerusalem and from 1837, as Rishon LeTziyon. He was a brother-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Bechor of Vilna. He traveled on a mission to North Africa together with Rabbi Yonah Sa'adiah Navon from 1802-1808. He served in Rabbi Moshe Sozin's Beit Din, and assisted in redeeming "Churvat R' Yehudah HeChassid" from the Arabs, and to establish the Menachem Tziyon synagogue there. His novellae are found in the book Nechpah BaKessef by his grandfather Rabbi Yonah Navon. He passed away in 1841 and was buried on the Mount of Olives. 1.5x5x7.5 cm. Very fine condition. Remnants of gilding.
