Napoleon III Ormolu Onyx Figural Three Piece Mantle Clock Set by Raingo Freres, Mid 19th Century. This clock set belonged to the Lowenstein family of Memphis, Tennessee and was part of the furnishings of their 756 Jefferson Ave. mansion. The Lowensteins were partners in the Perel & Lowenstein Jewelers Company in Memphis. Raingo Freres was established by Zacharie Joseph Raingo (1775-1839), and was renowned for crating astronomical clocks, one of which was gifted to King George IV and now resides in the Windsor Castle collection. Beautiful,grand gilt bronze and onyx candelabras flanking clock surmounted by a pair of Bacchantes playing tambourine and dancing with a child satyr statue after the model by Claude Michel Clodion. Signed on base, "Clodion, 1762." The clock has a marble face with gold gilt Roman dial and is marked, "Raingo Freres; Paris." Clock is numbered 1350. Works are stamped, "Raingo Freres, Paris." The clock comes with the original pendulum and key. Candelabras are numbered 1351. The two part Clock with statue in place measures approximately 32" high. Clock alone measures 9" high X 17 7/8" wide X 11" deep. Statue measures 23" high. (2) Six light candelabras measure 34" high X 14 3/4" wide. Condition- Beautiful set with some tarnish to bronze, gilt loss. The statue is in good condition with some minor oxidation and tarnish. Needs to be cleaned. Onyx is all intact and very stable with some old cracks. Candelabras have old frayed European conversion to electric wiring. The clock works appear to be in good condition. Clock has the original pendulum and key. Candelabras' arms are not level. See photos.
