Custom Queen Anne Style Maple Arm & Side Chair after John Gaines III, Portsmouth, New Hampshire by Thomas P. Hand of Rye, New Hampshire. Each with pierced carved yoke-form crest rail with leaf and scrolled terminals above a vasiform splat, the armchair with downward swept arms and ram's horn handholds, above a trapezoidal rush seat with a conforming convex surround and apron with arched drop, raised on block-and-vase turned legs joined by a bulbous turned stretcher, terminating in Spanish feet. Each chair with inscription and branded "Thomas P. Hand, Sr." on the rear seat rail. Tom Hand, Sr. is a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsman, a member of the Guild of NH Woodworkers and has had his work exhibited at the Strawberry Bank Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
