Seated Buddha in dhyanasana Tibet, 20th century Gilded bronze The Buddha is depicted seated in a meditation posture (dhyanasana), his right hand touching the earth (bhumisparsha mudra), symbolizing enlightenment. The face presents a peaceful expression, eyes half-closed beneath pronounced superciliary arches, hair styled in small curls and gathered in a bun. The base is engraved with a Tibetan dedication inscription, probably invoking the blessing or protection of a master or donor, and perhaps the consecration of the statue. Inscription: བླ་མ་དགའ་བསུན་གྱིས་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་སྨོན་ལམ་གསུམ་པ། Transliteration: bla ma dga' bsun gyis phyag rgya smon lam gsum pa Possible translation: "By the lama Dga'bsun, with the gesture of offering, the triple prayer has been formulated."
