Wu Zuoren (1908-1997) China, dated 1948 46,5 x 36,5 cm (64 x 54 cm R.) Portrait of a girl. Oil/ wood, framed. Signature of the artist in Chinese and Latin script: "Wu Zuoren, Beiping 1948". French private collection, by repute acquired in Piasa in 2010, by tradition from an old private collection assembled ca. 1980 Wu Zuoren came from Anhui and was a pupil of Xu Beihong (1895-1953). From 1930 to 1935, he studied Western painting in Paris and Brussels. After his return, he taught at the Central Academy of Art in Beijing from 1946. Until the 1970s, he worked equally in both Chinese and Chinese painting techniques. He then focussed on ink painting, working from his experiences in Tibet and the Gobi desert, mainly depicting camels, yaks and pandas. Französische Privatsammlung, laut Überlieferung 2010 in Piasa erworben, zuvor aus einer alten Privatsammlung von 1980 Wu Zuoren stammte aus Anhui und war Schüler von Xu Beihong (1895-1953). Von 1930 bis 1935 studierte er westliche Ölmalerei in Paris und in Brüssel. Nach seiner Rückkehr lehrte er seit 1946 an der Zentralen Kunstakademie in Peking. Bis in die 1970er arbeitete er sowohl in Öl als auch in chinesischer Maltechnik gleichermaßen. Danach konzentrierte er sich auf die Tuschmalerei, wobei er seine Erlebnisse in Tibet und der Wüste Gobi verarbeitete und vor allem Kamele, Yaks und Pandas darstellte. Das vorliegende Bild ist ein schönes frühes Beispiel seiner Ölmalerei.
