Bronze with minimal signs of wear, leather cover with heavy signs of wear Erläuterungen / Comments Als zweites Kind in der Künstlerfamilie Giacometti im Bergell aufgewachsen, stand Diego Giacometti lange im Schatten seines Vaters Giovanni und seines älteren Bruders Alberto, der sich bereits in den 1920er-Jahren in Paris einen Namen als Künstler gemacht hatte. Nach seiner Schulzeit begann Diego eine kaufmännische Ausbildung, folgte aber im Februar 1925 seinem Bruder nach Paris. Als Alberto durch Vermittlung von Man Ray (1890-1976) 1929 den Innenarchitekten und Möbeldesigner Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) kennenlernte und sich fortan auch mit der Gestaltung von Einrichtungsgegenständen befasste, fand Diego endlich seine Berufung: Er unterstützte seinen Bruder bei der Umsetzung und Herstellung dieser "Designobjekte". Alberto vertraute ihm später sogar den gesamten Herstellungsprozess an. Die archaischen Formensprache war am Anfang dominant, etwa bei den sich kreuzenden Beinen von Tischen und Hockern. Von den "Tabourets" (Hocker) entstanden drei Versionen. Bei der ersten und frühesten Version sind unten die Füsse flach und abgewinkelt. Die hier angebotenen Hocker wurden sehr früh von Eberhard W. Kornfeld für seine Privaträume erworben. The second child in the Bregaglia Giacometti artist family, Diego Giacometti long remained in the shadow of his father, Giovanni, and his older brother, Alberto, who had already made a name for himself as an artist in Paris in the 1920s. After finishing school, Diego began a commercial apprenticeship, but in February 1925, he followed his brother to Paris. When Alberto, through the mediation of Man Ray (1890-1976), met the interior architect and furniture designer Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) in 1929 and subsequently became involved in the design of furnishings, Diego finally found his calling: he supported his brother in the realisation and production of his 'design objects'. Later, Alberto even entrusted him with the entire production process. The archaic formal language was dominant at first, for example in the intersecting legs of tables and stools. The tabletops were made of glass, stone or wood. Three versions of the 'Tabourets' (stools) were created. The first and earliest version had flat, angled feet. The stools offered here were acquired very early on by Eberhard W. Kornfeld for his private rooms.
