Liu Bingsen (August 1937 - February 15, 2005), courtesy name Shuan, pseudonym Haicun, and known as Liu Wushi during his childhood, was born in Shanghai with ancestral roots in Wuqing, Tianjin. Liu Bingsen was renowned for his calligraphy, particularly in the styles of clerical script (隶书) and regular script (楷书), and was also skilled in running script (行书) and cursive script (草书). He began with the regular script of the Tang dynasty and later turned to the Han clerical script, developing a unique style known as "Liu-style clerical script" (刘体隶书), characterized by a balance of solid strength and elegant fluidity. His regular script followed the tradition of Yan Zhenqing and also incorporated influences from the Wei stele style. Liu placed great emphasis on the foundational education of calligraphy, and his works were frequently displayed in domestic and international exhibitions. His publications have sold over two million copies, making a significant contribution to the exchange, popularization, and development of calligraphy.
