SERIAL NUMBER: NSN, BARREL: 42", CALIBER: .69, MFG: 1850. U.S Model 1842 Springfield smoothbore musket. Lock is stamped with the Federal Eagle over US, and Springfield 1950 behind hammer. The barrel tang is dated 1851, and is marked V P Eaglehead at the breech. CONDITION: Very Good. Mostly smooth metal with freckling and light pitting. The musket is complete and original except for a replacement nipple. The action is crisp and the bore is clean with light frosting. The walnut stock is good with light handling marks, and the initials "W.J.A." carved above the side plate. The forestock has several impressions. Typically these Model 1842 muskets saw a lot of hard use. This one is well preserved example. ANTIQUE
