SERIAL NUMBER:591, BARREL: 38", CALIBER: about..45. Contemporary flintlock rifle. Features full length octagon barrel, cherry stock, with inlays and brass hardware. Top of barrel flat marked "Geo. M. Soence Jr. His Gun". Brass lock plate is marked "R. Southgate". Royland Southgate (1915-1979) a Tennessee Gunsmith was among the early gunmakers to revive traditional American gun making. Southgate hand built a limited number of flintlock and percussion firearms. This rifle was a special order. CONDITION: Fine, Rifle has been used and would benefit from a cleaning. The lock worked with the set trigger. The cherry full stock has handling marks and finish loss at the butt. There is a stress hairline by the lock side screw. Bore has good rifling and frosting.
