A FINE GREEK SILVER GILT-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL (ZLATKA), BOKA KOTORSKA, FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY with tapering barrel, probably of European manufacture, formed in three stages, inscribed with a faux European signature and stamped with imitation proof marks on the left of the breech, the muzzle retained by a broad band cast and chased with a strapwork frame involving foliage and flowers against a finely punched ground, lightly engraved stepped bevelled lock fitted with cock decorated en suite, full silver gilt stock decorated en suite with the muzzle band and with a trophy-of-arms beneath the breech, a vase beneath the lock (one small crack on the left of the breech), and the butt with integral spirally fluted pommel decorated with garlands, broad silver gilt trigger-guard decorated with a bird of prey, and imitation ramrod 28.8 cm; 11 3/8 in barrel A pair of similarly decorated pistols were owned by the distinguished Greek General, Politician and leader Petros Mavromichalis (Petrobey) (c. 1765-1848).
