‡ A 40 BORE BELGIAN PERCUSSION RIFLED TARGET PISTOL, LIÈGE PROOF, MID-19TH CENTURY with octagonal blued sighted rifled barrel inscribed ~Acier Fondu~ in gold-encrusted gothic letters, engraved breech decorated with scrollwork and with the number ~2~ in gold, struck beneath with proof mark and the number ~1636/21~, engraved breech tang numbered and decorated en suite and with the initials ~LF~, above a cockerel within a small shield, scroll-engraved flush-fitting lock, blackened half-stock carved with scrolling leafy foliage over the fore-end and the butt, scroll-engraved iron mounts comprising spurred trigger-guard and butt-cap (the iron parts with areas of pitting, the stock cracked in two places), and no provision for a ramrod 24.3 cm; 9 5/8 in barrel
