Ⓐ A 40 BORE FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF PISTOL BY BOWER, LONDINI, LATE 17TH CENTURY with multi-stage cannon barrel with octagonal then polygonal breech signed in capital letters beneath the pan (cock missing), engraved separate tang, highly figured burrwood butt carved in low relief with foliage about the tang and moulded behind the lock, and moulded iron trigger-guard with acanthus finial (areas of pitting) 5.3 cm; 2 1/8 in barrel Probably by George 2 Bower or his son Richard. The former apprenticed to Matthew Hardman, turned over to William Sharp in 1679, free of the Gunmakers Company 1689 and is recorded working for Ordnance 1703-6. Richard apprenticed to his father in 1706 and was free of the company in 1720. Part proceeds to benefit Westminster Abbey
