This lovely fruit lithograph is from Joseph Decaisne's Le Jardin Fruitier du Museum, ou Iconographie de Toutes les Especes et Varietes d'Arbres Fruitiers Cultives dans cet Etablissement avec leur description, leur histoire, leur synonymie. The work was published in Paris by Firmin Didot between 1858 and 1875. The work served as a scientific study and practical horticultural guide. The images were after Alfred Riocreux and engraved by Mlle. Tailland and P. Picart. Riocreux was described as "the most sensitive and skilful French botanical artist of the period...the Paris counterpart of Walter Hood Fitch." (Blunt) Joseph Decaisne (1807-1882) was a Belgian-born French botanist. He was noted for his contributions to horticulture, agronomy, and botanical taxonomy. He trained at the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.
