Circulated by Associated American Artists, New York City. The sheet measures 12 ½" x 19" and the glazed frame measures 17" x 21". Of Threshing, Benton wrote: “Made from a series of drawings and a painting done in 1938. The scene represents the last steam thresher engine to be operated in Johnson County, N.E. Kansas. The areas represented is within 25 miles of my K.C. home. We were still near the coutry here in 1938. I'll bet every bit of this land is now sprouting ranch houses and swim pools and teen age protestants. It is, in 1974.” Note: This is one of three prints offered in the auction that was not sourced from the Elman collection. A private Mission, KS collection. Literature: Creekmore Fath, The Lithographs of Thomas Hart Benton, 2001 (third edition), University of Texas Press/ Alan Wofsy Fine Arts (San Francisco), 48.
