Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975) The Hymn Singer, 1950 Lithograph on Rives paper 12 ½” x 16” (image) Edition of 500   Pencil-signed to the bottom right margin. Circulated by Twayne Publishers, New York City, with their blind stamp to the bottom left corner of the sheet, numbered in pen along the bottom edge of the sheet (#58 of 500). Alternate title: The Minstrel. The sheet measures 20" x 16" and the glazed frame measures 22" x 18".   Of The Hymn Singer, Benton wrote: “Burl [Ives] visited me in Kansas City in 1950, returning from Hollywood, with a beard which had been grown for a part in some southern movie story.
